Sussex Police asking offenders to hand with texts

As a defense attorney I'm not surprised to hear this. A significant portion of my clientele will miss or skip a court date, usually for some misdemeanor or driving charge, and then forget about it or put it off until it escapes memory.A simple text saying "Hey turn your self in or we will serve the warrant" would spur many of them to do just that. Sure if someone is actually trying to hide from the law it will not, but for those who are a victim of their own procrastination yes definitely.

Want more professional cops? Pay them more. Teachers too. With all of the anti-police nonsense going on, who wants to go into a profession to get paid a relatively small amount, risk your life doing it, and know that people are likely to think that you're a piece of shit just because you wear a badge? My own field pays about $60K/year to start, and it requires at least a four-year degree; so these figures seem pretty damn good to me. I don't have to confront hostile people on a daily basis, though.Sir, do you know why I pulled you over? For speeding officer? No, for nothing really, but since you think you were speeding here is a ticket, g'day!

Find it in your local laws and remind them of it word for word in the court room. If they seem like they want to be cunts about it, make them give you a jury trial. Jury trials are expensive enough that half the time they won't even bother putting one together for something as insignificant as a speeding ticket. If they DO actually give you a jury trial you're dealing with people who have no interest in the city making 800 bucks off of you.In my personal experience just about any small town is that way. You have a nasty combination of bored cops, low crime rates, and half-dead tiny towns that probably get half their budget from ticketing tourists on their way through town.

What the hell... I live in the boonies of Tennessee and it's still not that bad here. IF that ever happens again look into hiring an inexpensive traffic lawyer. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to fork over a couple hundred bucks to have them keep track of it than it is to put up with local ordinance bullshit and pay out nearly $1k for a damn speeding ticket. And if it's something stupid like the cop blue lighting you 50 feet after the speed change the attorney can get it thrown out pretty easily so they might not even charge that much. I got one near me to take a case for like 150 bucks because it took practically no effort on their part to get the case thrown out.
